JUNIORS

FOR SCHOOLS

Reconnecting children with nature through learning journeys, inspiring workshops, and engaging content
In 2007, Journeys With Meaning was started as a response to the growing disconnect between humans and Nature. Over the last decade, JwM has showcased India’s most inspiring environmental and social solutions to issues like climate change, deforestation, water and air pollution, food scarcity, etc. Our immersive learning journeys and interactive workshops are the key ways in which we have been reaching out to the youth of India.

While Journeys With Meaning encourages adults to preserve and bequeath a healthier world to our children, JwM JUNIORS aims to equip children with a better understanding of the planet and instil in them, the values, attitudes, and practices that will help them live a more earth-friendly life.

“If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it. Perhaps this is what Thoreau had in mind when he said, “the more slowly trees grow at first, the sounder they are at the core, and I think the same is true of human beings””

~ David Sobel

In our increasingly disconnected world, Nature does not get its due credit. There is much to learn from Nature and the many wonderful ways in which it sustains life on this beautiful planet.

Sadly, one of the unexpected consequences of our unplanned urbanisation is a drastic increase in the gap between children and nature.

JwM JUNIORS aims to bridge this gap by introducing children to the magical world of Nature, thereby helping them understand the importance of the roles they can play in appreciating and protecting it, while learning to co-exist with it.

OUR METHODOLOGY

With experiential learning as the focal point, each of our learning journeys and workshops aims at creating exciting learning opportunities for students in the following ways.

Awareness

of natural ecosystems and their processes, of different cultures and their traditional practices, of their own role in the ‘web of life’ and how they can help conserve the biodiversity of the planet…

Appreciation

of other cultures and their different ways of living, that rely on simpler, earth-friendly technologies and that practice the idea that everything is interconnected…

Acting

on the lessons learnt, through simple and practical earth-friendly ideas that we will share and develop along with them
Our partners, who have chosen us as much as we have chosen them, practice ethical, responsible, and sustainable models. Their expertise has enriched the overall cultural exchange and given us new perspectives into how individual and community needs can be woven together into an integrated whole. An immersive understanding and deeper insights into ecology and the wisdom of local communities, is just the beginning…,

OUR TEAM

Over the last 10 years, our eclectic team of interdisciplinary professionals has continued to deliver experiences that have transformed participants’ mindsets, opened them up to new ways of being and doing, and reconnected them with alternative ways of life that offer the solutions that we vitally need today…

“Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it.”

~ David Suzuki

Our daughter went on a trip with JwM in May this year. The concept is fantastic — that we don’t just consume as tourists but learn and contribute, in whichever way we can. That we get to know local issues and get responsible. Also, being a bit of an introvert, our goals for our kid included going out there and talking to people. Well, she hasn’t stopped talking about the trip since they came back. The group coalesced and the kids are still in touch with each other, some beautiful friendships. One of the first things she told us was: Guys, there are going to be some lifestyle changes in our home. We waste so much! A realization in a home that prides itself on being green, organic, going low on waste, et al. Something that will get into her value system given this trip and the exposure she got. Thanks a ton, Vinod, Neha and Michelle! They were so well taken care of in the best way possible – not cosseted but cared for. Loved that, the independence given with an eye being kept on them.
