Conversations with Kashmir

To be announced

9 days | Maximum group size : 10-12

“Gar firdaus, bar ruhe zamin ast,
hamin asto, hamin asto, hamin ast.”

“If there is paradise on this earth, it is here, it is here, it is here…”

Spoken in awe by the great poet Amir Khusrau, the stunning Kashmir valley continues to evoke this very sentiment even today in the heart of many a traveller. The lush green meadows, the gently meandering streams that merge into the Indus & Jhelum rivers, the verdant forests that have watched over the valley for millennia, the imposing Pir Panjal & Zabarwan ranges – each of these elements by themselves is more than capable of moving us to tears.

Imagine their power when they come together to form a soul-stirring landscape suffused with mystique, all of it encircled by the ancient and awe-inspiring Himalayas!

Traveling with Journeys With Meaning is not for the faint-hearted. Do not think of this as a plain vanilla vacation – be prepared to be challenged physically (the treks!) and mentally (new ideas!). Kashmir 2016 was my third journey with the group (after Meghalaya and Spiti). The valley is indeed beautiful and Kashmiri food is unique. But this time, we got a glimpse of how Kashmiris tackle issues of personal identity while dealing with the practical reality of living in a heavily militarised zone. Their struggle is real.

If you are someone who likes a context to your holiday, this is the kind of trip you will enjoy. You are likely to learn a lot about ecology and meet some very interesting people. Prepare to make good friends and truly build lasting memories.
