Stepping outside your comfort zone isn’t easy. There are way too many changes that one has to be prepared to deal with. Especially if you are an urban teenager, travelling to a new place, with a new set of people who you haven’t met before. It’s too much to ask for, isn’t it? A new place means new people, unfamiliar cuisine, language, weather conditions and a new set of rules and customs to keep in mind! It’s not easy…
But here’s the thing. If you ask those who have done it, they will tell you how insanely easy it is! All you need to do is take that one leap of faith. To believe that things are going to be great. It’s okay to feel anxious, even a bit nervous. I’d be surprised if you weren’t. But beyond that anxiety and nervousness, if there’s even a little corner of your heart that’s holding onto some excitement, then you are good! Excitement about the new place, new people, new food, new weather and even the new rules.
That little excitement acts as a spark of warmth in an unknown, cold space. That excitement will help you open up, have an open mind. And one of the most amazing things about having an open mind is that it will almost always lead to heart-warming experiences. Experiences that you would want to hold on to for as long as you can. Experiences that may teach you to be empathetic, resilient, and even wiser. And experiences that may teach you to be cautious, thoughtful and mindful. Experiences that might make you cry… and bring a smile to your face when you think about it later. And experiences that would make you fall out of your chair laughing but might bring a tear to your eye when you think of it fondly, years later.
And even before you know it, you are out there completely immersed in the journey laughing, playing, talking, questioning, exploring, trying and learning. Opening yourself up to new new possibilities and letting go of your fears. Yes, all of this is waiting for you at the end of your journey! All it takes is that one leap of faith. That’s all it needs to have some of the most amazing experiences of your life. Are you willing to take that leap of faith?
